What is the name of your organization?

Samantha Pettigrew: The International Council on Clean Transportation.

Why the focus on international affairs?

Samantha Pettigrew: Research clean transportation solutions in Chile and other major markets of Latin America. Some of these include electric buses for public transport, electric vehicles for public and private use, and clean air and efficiency regulations.

What are you working on these days?

Samantha Pettigrew: A policy update on progressive Chilean transportation policies, such as their new energy efficiency law (which is a first for the region), and their internal combustion engine phase-out targets (i.e., when to have 100% electric vehicle sales of new cars).

What made you join the Pacific Council?

Samantha Pettigrew: I was living in Chile and wanting to be connected with U.S. policy work. The Pacific Council connected those two things for me and I've now been a member for about four years.

What’s your biggest takeaway?

Samantha Pettigrew: When it comes to climate change and environmental protections, there are no borders. We are all on the same team!
