What is the name of your organization?
James Jongsoo Lee: I’m a Partner and Senior Managing Director at Brock Group, a boutique investment bank and business advisory firm. I’m also Center Associate at Harvard University’s Davis Center for Russian and Eurasian Studies. Additionally, I’m Adjunct Fellow at Hawaii-based Pacific Forum and Contributing Editor at The Diplomat, and lead the National Security SIG at Harvard Club of New York..
Why the focus on international affairs?
James Jongsoo Lee: I have always been interested in international affairs. This is partly due to my family background. My father is a former career diplomat, having served as South Korea's Vice Foreign Minister and Ambassador to Germany, Italy, Ireland and Israel. I have been to over 70 countries around the world.
What are you working on these days?
James Jongsoo Lee: As Contributing Editor at The Diplomat, I have been interviewing leading experts on the Indo-Pacific. The Pacific Council Magazine has been republishing these interviews. I enjoy leading the National Security SIG at the Harvard Club of New York. We have events featuring exciting guest speakers on a wide range of topics.
What made you join the Pacific Council?
James Jongsoo Lee: A Pacific Council member told me about the Council and recommended that I join. He nominated me for membership, so I joined.
What’s your biggest takeaway?
James Jongsoo Lee: Being a member of the Pacific Council has been tremendously beneficial. I have been learning a lot from all the Council events I have participated in.
